Fein Multi-Master

Posted by Aaron on March 30, 2006 and filed under Fein

We've given a lot of love to Dremel in the past few weeks, but they're not the only niche tool manufacturer with a rabid fan base. When my wife was looking for a solution to some detailed work she needed to do on our wooden sashes last summer, she came across the Fein Multimaster.

The Multimaster is kind of the oscillating companion to the Dremel's rotary action--great for cutting and fine sanding. Like the Dremel, it comes with plenty of heads and attachments that make the Multimaster a pretty handy tool.

I can say first hand that it was useful when we needed to shave a few millimeters off some framing pieces that kept some salvaged trim from laying flush around a window. (Photos are here, just scroll down.) My dad also made use of it this past weekend when modifying some kitchen cabinets to accept a new overhead microwave.

I haven't come across a dedicated web forum to fans of the tool (there's an opportunity for someone), but users do show up on a lot of the DIY and woodworking message boards and they're consistently pretty jazzed on the thing.

For more examples, I pulled a few action photos from the Fein website so you can see them after the jump...
