Dremel Glue Gun

Posted by Aaron on July 21, 2006 and filed under Adhesives , Dremel , Gadgets

When is a Dremel not a Dremel? When it's the new Dremel glue gun.

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure how to feel about this one. Dremel has certainly earned its right to cash in on some brand loyalty...their rotary tools invented the category. However, I'm not really sure what the "value add" (sorry, but sometimes corproate-speak is dead on) is in this case.

The Dremel glue gun does have some nice features: two temperature settings, a green LED 'ready-to-use' light, and such. However, what makes this particular glue gun a Dremel? I'm not sure.

Maybe they're just suffering from the whole 'brand as category' syndrome that others like Kelenex or Tivo have gone through...I'm fine with Sony releasing a VCR, but a Tivo VCR would bend my mind.

Anyway, I'm sure it's a good tool...just had to get that off my mind...

Dremel Calling for DIY Projects

Posted by Aaron on June 2, 2006 and filed under Dremel

Next year Dremel will celebrate it's 75th anniversary (seriously?) and they're getting a jump on the occasion. They're planning to celebrate great projects by DIYers for the entire year.

So, if you've got a project you'd like to show off let them know...

"Dremel will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2007, and we are looking for Dremel users to give us a year's worth of projects — big and small — to showcase the many uses for rotary tools. Send your project ideas via e-mail to dremel@jsha.com, or via regular mail at Dremel Million Uses, c/o JSH&A, 2 TransAm Plaza Drive, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181"

Dremel Accessories: Plunge Router

Posted by Aaron on May 30, 2006 and filed under Dremel

It never ceases to amaze me how many accessories there are for the Dremel--it's like the iPod of the tool world. The latest one I've come across in their June newsletter is a great one--the Dremel plunge router.

With it you can route out precision cuts for all kind of unusual spaces. The newsletter suggested using it to core out a door latch, which makes lots of sense.

I especially like the clear base, which allows for visibility during operation.

Dremel Storage Cases

If you're looking for a purpose-built storage case for your Dremel you won't find them in retail stores. However, Dremel does offer two cases through the Service Center in Racine, WI.

From Dremel's site:

"The largest and most popular Dremel tool and accessory case is the Deluxe Window Storage Case #9673, which measures 16.5"L x 7"W x 6"H. It holds one corded Dremel tool and approximately 130 bits. Two additional storage areas located in the lid keep loose accessories – like polishing wheels – together while a designated bottom compartment is perfect for storing the flex shaft, cutting guide and grout guide attachments. The Deluxe Window Storage Case retails for $21.30 (not including shipping and tax where applicable).'

To order, contact Dremel's customer service team at 1-800-437-3635, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Standard Time.

Dremel 220 Workstation

Dremel keeps on cranking out new variations on their tried-and-true favorites, and this week comes word of a new workstation mounting kit.

dremel_workstation.jpg

The mounting kit seems pretty versatile actually, allowing a standard Dremel to become a drill press, a mounted rotary tool, or mount it and use your dremel bits pen-style with their flex shaft attachment. The idea of using a Dremel as a mini high-precision drill press seems especiallly cool.

Available now for $45 bucks shipped from from Amazon.com.

More hi-rez, bandwidth choking action photos of each of the three mounting choices after the jump.

Dremel Stylus Cordless Rotary Tool

Posted by Aaron on March 2, 2006 and filed under Dremel

Dremel is introducing yet another variation of their namesake tool this month--the Dremel Stylus.

This model looks to be positioned as the dremel for the every man person. From their own site, they emphasize that it's "perfect for applications around the home such as finishing, intricate sanding, polishing, cleaning, engraving and much more."

In addition to the unprecedented handle, the included charging stand is a nice touch, which also serves as storage for the inevitable attachments.

More photos after the jump...
