DIY Rechargable Battery Upgrade for Power Tools

Filed under Homemade Tools , How To...

Over on the MAKE blog, someone's gone and upgraded their old NiCad-powered rechargable drill with newer and more effective NiMH batteries.

There's no mention of the possibility of switching to Lithium Ion batteries that are so popular now--might be a voltage issue...?

Details on the switch are laid out nicely on the step-by-step community site Instructables--you can see the instructions here.

Wrong voltage, yes, but also the fact that if you try to charge a LiI pack from a NiCd/NiMH charger, you are likely to burn your house down :-).
