Review: 3M Pre-Taped Masking Film

This weekend it was time to paint another room and hallway. While I was at my local paint store I spotted a product I had never used before--3M Pre-Taped Masking Film.

The lazy side of me thought, "Maybe if I put that on the baseboard I won't have to mess-around with moving the drop cloth as I progress." Of course, my lazy side won over.

I brought the tape home and quickly set about taping up the baseboards.

I did find the product somewhat frustrating because if the tape ripped (which happened about four times) then it took a bit of time to get going again. Even so, I have to admit the lazy side of me liked the fact that the tape secured the plastic "drop cloth" into place. I didn't have to mess with it for the next few hours.

Eric was outside during the entire painting project, so he has no comment.

[Editor's note: As someone who was a professional painter in the summers throughout college, I'll definitely recommend that pplying pre-taped plastics like these can be alot easier if you get a dispenser gun designed for the particular masking film you choose. Worth the cost if you're doing enough of this type of work, especially if you need to protect interior windows from splattering.]
