Milwaukee V28 Review Round-Up (Concensus? No Consensus.)
So, Milwaukee's V28 series of high-powered cordless tools have been out for a while now and the reviews are rolling in. Unfortunately, not everyone seems keen on their 28 volt, lithium ion-powered monsters. While some are singing their praises (it won the Editor's Choice Grand Award from Tools of the Trade magazine), other hands-on reviews raise concern that they might actually be too juiced up for their own good.

Of greatest concern is the review from Consumer Reports--a few drills they tested actually melted down because of the heat they produced while driving heavy duty lag screws. They ended up convinced that the V28 series was, more often than not, a poor balance of battery technology, quality and cost. Their bottom line: "You’ll find several heavy-duty drills that cost roughly half as much as the 28-volt Milwaukee, weigh less, and perform nearly as well without durability issues."
That said, Peter Brett of ToolBusiness+Hire magazine liked the V28 HX Hammer Drill after his own trials. He writes that "The V28...is my first real experience, in extended use, of a cordless that can match the power of a corded machine." In contrast to CR, he finds the weight and design to his liking as well.
